Eating healthy is a very essential part of our lifestyle that governs health.  The diet we eat directly governs overall health as a vital factor.  A balanced diet is directly responsible by all means for the healthy individual. A healthy diet includes a balanced diet. This is a diet that includes the required amount of nutrients in an appropriate amount for maintaining body cells, tissues and organs and allowing them to function in an appropriate and required manner and for the proper growth and development of the body of the individuals.

A balanced diet consists of a high amount of fruits/vegetables and carbohydrates in form of bread, rice, potatoes, pasta, etc., a small portion of milk & dry foods, meats, fish, eggs, legume and the lowest amount of foods, drinks, and food high in fat or sugar. Food habits have shown a pattern over a period of time. Diet and food habits have changed over a period of time, artificial ingredients, people hardly grow their own food and the food they procure is grown with toxic chemicals and economy and demand have made it possible to procure all non-seasonal vegetables throughout the year.  It has also enhanced the use of harmful preservatives. Additives or flavors are added to enhance the taste of the food we eat by manufacturers, making them unnatural and unhealthy and also the use of food processing, destroys, the health value of foods.

The use of sugar and salt has increased manifolds which, as known, is detrimental to human health. The modern diet has caused people to be unhealthy, overweight and prone to diseases because of:-

  • Increased Sugars
  • Consumption of Sodas / Preserved Fruit Juices
  • Increased intake of calories in the form of fried preserved food along with processed food.

Consumption of processed fats and multiple reuses of frying, the medium is also a very unhealthy preposition

Organic farming which constitutes of natural fertilizers instead of synthetic, using crop-rotation instead of genetically modified crops, using herbicides is avoided and traditional methods of tilling, crop rotation is used to kill weeds and even the feed to animals is organic instead of growth hormones and the treatment given to them is also by herbs instead of medications overall reduces diseases and protects the environment.

Another very important aspect is junk food.  These generally contain little or no nutrition value and constitute only empty calories, these generally constitute readily to eat convenience foods, which have high levels of saturated fats, salts, or sugar and no fruits, vegetables or fiber, indicating total lack of nutritive value.  They cause Poor Concentration, Heart disease, and Lack of energy.

A healthy diet includes consuming food that helps maintain or improve good health and prevents diseases that are associated with health risks like Obesity, CAD, Diabetes, Cancer.  Factors to be kept in mind are:

·       Use of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables

·       Maintain a healthy weight

·       Reduce certain foods like sugar, fried and polished rice

·       Eat regular meals
