When Should Doctors Consider Advanced Neonatal Training?
Advanced neonatal intensive care require different levels of clinical expertise. As doctors begin managing increasingly complex new-born cases, additional structured training becomes essential for improving clinical confidence and patient outcomes.
An Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology supports doctors who want to strengthen their knowledge in:
- Management of extremely premature infants
- Advanced Respiratory Support and Neonatal Ventilation
- Complex Neonatal Resuscitation
- Hemodynamic stabilization of critically ill new-borns
- Advanced management of Neonatal Sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction
- Evidence-based decision-making for high-acuity NICU patients

What is an Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology?
The Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology is a 10-month specialty-focused postgraduate medical education programme designed for MD (Pediatrics), DNB (Pediatrics) and DCH-qualified doctors who want to strengthen their expertise in advanced neonatal care. The programme covers neonatal intensive care, neonatal ventilation, neonatal resuscitation, neonatal sepsis, management of preterm infants and evidence-based clinical decision-making through structured online learning and expert-led case discussions.
Who is eligible for this advanced neonatal fellowship?
The minimum eligibility for advanced neonatal fellowship is MD (Pediatrics)/ DNB (Pediatrics)/ DCH (Child Health).
Who should pursue an Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology?
This fellowship is ideal for pediatricians who wish to strengthen their expertise in neonatal intensive care, high-risk newborn management, neonatal emergencies, and evidence-based neonatal practice. It is particularly suitable for doctors working in hospitals, NICUs, newborn care units, and pediatric departments who want to advance their clinical knowledge while continuing their professional practice.
Is the Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology delivered online?
Yes. The programme follows a flexible online learning model that enables practicing doctors to continue their clinical responsibilities while pursuing advanced neonatal education. The curriculum includes structured learning modules, expert-led sessions, case-based discussions, and evidence-based educational resources designed specifically for working healthcare professionals.
Can I continue my clinical practice while pursuing the Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology?
Yes. The flexible online learning format allows doctors to continue working in hospitals, clinics, or academic settings while completing the fellowship. Participants can learn at their own pace without interrupting their professional responsibilities, making the programme suitable for practicing pediatricians.
Does the Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology include practical clinical training?
This neonatal fellowship focuses on enhancing clinical knowledge through interactive case studies, theoretical modules, and expert discussions, rather than hands-on clinical training.
What advanced clinical competencies will I develop during the Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology?
The fellowship helps doctors strengthen advanced competencies in neonatal intensive care, neonatal ventilation, neonatal resuscitation, management of extremely preterm infants, neonatal sepsis, hemodynamic stabilisation, neonatal jaundice, fluid and electrolyte management, and evidence-based clinical decision-making. These competencies help pediatricians build greater confidence when managing critically ill newborns in modern neonatal practice.
What kind of certification will I receive?
Upon completion of the advanced neonatal fellowship program from Medigrad, successful participants will be awarded 2 certifications-
(i) Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology from Medigrad (Singapore) with The CPD Standards (UK) accreditation
(ii) Advanced Fellowship in Neonatology from The CPD Standards (UK) – with 60 CPD hours
Both certificates will be issued online and the original hard copy will be sent through post, are valid for life, and are verifiable online.
How does this fellowship benefit my career?
Completing this fellowship will significantly enhance your expertise in neonatal care, making you eligible for roles in neonatal ICUs, specialized hospitals, and research positions.
Is it a recognized program by the Medical Council of India?
The Medical Council of India has no jurisdiction over any programme delivered via online or blended learning platforms. These fellowship courses are not intended to be a substitute for formal medical education or specialization. Nonetheless, it seeks to provide doctors with the knowledge and tools they need to support and improve their patient care skills.
Can Indian foreign medical graduates apply for Medigrad’s Advanced Neonatal Fellowship?
Indian foreign medical graduates first need to clear FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination), i.e., a screening test for international medical graduates, to be eligible to obtain the registration certificate from the National Medical Commission (NMC) or State Medical Council (SMC) & practice medicine in the country. Once the registration certificate is obtained, the Indian foreign medical graduate can apply for Medigrad’s Advanced Neonatal Fellowship.
