Program Overview
Neonatology is a specialized skill that requires to manages infants who need medical attention or are at high risk after delivery. - Neonatal resuscitation
- Postnatal assessment and well baby care (newborn examination, red reflex, hip screening, newborn screening, vaccination, vitamin K)
- Overview of preterm baby management and general priniciples of care
- Respiratory distress of the newborn
- Feeding-breastfeeding and support
- Feeding the preterm baby
- Important concerns in the preterm baby-Apnoea of prematurity, IVH, NEC, ROP
- Fluid balance, TPN and enteral feeding
- Metabolic conditions-Hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia, renal failure
- Neonatal jaundice and its management
- Blood gas analysis and lab investigations in Neonatology
- Shock in neonates
- Anemia and polycythemia (including hydrops)
- Bleeding disorders and coagulation disorders
- Neonatal sepsis and an overview of TORCH infections
- Perinatal asphyxia and neonatal seizures
- An overview of Inborn errors of metabolism and their management

Dr. Sridhar Kalyanasundaram completed his basic medical training from India in 1995 as the best outgoing student from Stanley Medical College, Chennai. He qualified in Paediatrics (JIPMER, Pondicherry) and Neonatology (PGIMER, Chandigarh) in India. He completed the MRCPCH (UK) and obtained entry into the General Medical council Specialist register in UK (CCST) in 2005. He obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Pediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) (UK) in 2006. He worked as a Specialist Registrar in Neonatology at Addenbrookes NHS Trust Hospital, Cambridge, UK from 2004 to 2005. From Mid 2005 till August 2012, Dr. Sridhar worked as a Consultant Neonatologist in a level 3 Neonatal unit at Wishaw General Hospital near Glasgow, UK following which he moved to American hospital, Dubai. He worked there as consultant Neonatologist and head of department till 2017, followed by Zulekha Hospital and Al Zahra Hospital, and Danat Al Emarat Hospital, Abu Dhabi. Currently, he works as consultant Neonatologist at Al Jowhara Hospital, Al Ain, UAE. He is an examiner for MRCPCH clinical examination since 2010 and is NRP instructor as well.
